#1 - IBM Convention Report
----------------------------------
----------------------------------

Since I was a dealer at the convention, I didn't get to go to any lectures or close-up shows or contests. I did see most of the evening shows though. And I met some of the magic celebrities that were there.

Boris Wild:
I met Boris Wild. You may know him from his marked deck.
D.J. Ehlert and I had lunch with him. He is a very nice guy; always smiling. We had a nice discussion about instant deck memorizing. He has a copy of my BAM book. In the last email he sent he said he'd look at it in August.

Henry Evans:
I also met Henry Evans. He was impressive. And he put my feeble memory techniques to shame. He could spread a deck and instantly memorize it with his photographic memory. If anyone names a card he could tell you instantly how far down in the deck it is.

I asked him if he really had a photographic memory or if that was just a line. But he really does. He could tell me what he was doing but no one but he can do it! But he did tell me how to work at looking at a card spread and seeing it as one big picture, not just individual cards.

Jon Armstrong:
I also met Jon Armstrong. Since I hadn't looked at the roster for the convention, when I was visiting with him, I didn't even know that he was one of the featured performers/lecturers. He knows cards and he has his own unique approach and philosophy. He's a regular performer at the Magic Castle. And he was interested in my BAM! book. So he asked to trade his lecture DVDs for my book. !!

Kalin, Ginger & Simard:
For DJ and I, the highlight of the convention wasn't even at the convention. We got to see Kalin & Ginger perform at the Magic Underground in downtown Reno. it was a super-excellent show. And we got to see my new friend and MagicBase owner Jacques Simard. He does the opening close-up show for them. It was a perfect performance!

Overall, the convention numbers were down. Some people were holding out for next year when the IBM and SAM do a combined convention. But we had fun, and my trip was paid for in sales.

#2 -1 spare copy left!
BAM! The Complete Course for the Borrowed And Memorized Deck
----------------------------------
----------------------------------

In preparation for the convention, I had one copy of BAM! printed. I thought that there might be someone there who didn't want to go to the effort of printing out all 120 pages of the book. After all, that could cost $8 to $16 in ink.

But I didn't sell it because I didn't show it to everyone who bought the CD. ( I sold 5) So, I've decided to sell it at a loss.

So, if you would like a copy of BAM! and you don't want to go to the expense of printing it out, then this is for you:
A spiral bound, printer-store, printed copy of the book.
It is also printed on both sides of the heavy paper stock with no bleed through. So it is half the bulk, using only 60 sheets of paper.

The introductory price of the digital file is $39.95. It cost me $19 to get it printed at the printers. But I'll sell it for the digital file price of $39.95 (plus shipping)

Why am I doing this? I don't need a printed copy. And I won't be at another convention for a long time. So, it's just taking up space for me.

So, call me or email. I only have that one copy in excellent condition.

#3 - PERFORMING TIP: Your job on stage
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you know that your audience looks at you as the leader of the group while you're on stage?

They might not say it in so many words, but that is really what you are. You are telling the audience how they should be reacting.

Here's something that happened to me this month that helped me to learn this. I was performing outdoors for a church group. As I was standing on the stage doing my act, I could see the dark clouds rolling in. I could tell that I probably wasn't going to get all the way through myhalf hour act before they reached us.

After a few minutes, there was a sudden violent gust of wind. It was so hard that it knocked over a few things on the stage. Well, you know that wind can really wreck a show (and props). So I temporarily panicked and said something like "I sorry, I can't perform with a big wind!"

Well, the audience may have picked up some fear in my voice, because they started to be agitated and stand up. I quickly understood my role at this point and worked to calm them down saying, "This is just a sudden gust of wind. It's gone now. And it's not going to start raining. So we're
going to continue with the program now..."

And I handed the show off to the band. That helped. The band did their part and the program continued more or less as planned.

Now I'll know better how to respond. Keep everyone on task and don't give them a reason to think otherwise.

What do you think?

#4 - MagicBase 2.6 is ready!
--------------------------------------------------------------------

This version of MagicBase is our most important one.
It also has an updater built into it. So anyone who owns an earlier version of MagicBase may download this version for free and use it to bring their records into the newest MagicBase.

If you want to do this and you're a registered owner of MagicBase, then download the demo and install it ALONG SIDE YOUR OLD VERSION OF MAGICBASE. Then email me for the new authorization code.

You can view a video of the updating process at:
http://www.magicbase.biz/Videos.html

Best of all Version 2.6 is available now.
To download your FREE DEMO, go to this link:
http://www.magicbase.biz/DemoRequest.html

To all current owners of MagicBase:
You'll need an authorization code to unlock MagicBase so that it is fully operational. The demo download will only allow 60 customers. But after you've downloaded the demo, you can send me an email to request your
personal unlock Authorization code. (Obviously I can't publish them in this newsletter.)

Note to Mac users: For some reason, after I zipped MagicBase, the main file icon "MagicBase" is blank. So, to start it, just click on any of the other MB icons. I just don't have time to fix it now... I'm leaving soon.
