#1 - LECTURE REPORT
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I did a lecture for the Victoria Magic Circle (Ring 183) in
Victoria, BC last month. It went very well. They are a nice
group of magicians. They have quite a few magicians on
the island of Vancouver.
The lecture that I did was WAM! Walk-Around Magic That Kills.

#2 - I HATE WATCHING MYSELF

Do you ever use a video camera to tape your
performances? Let me stress a key point to improving your
shows:
TAPE YOURSELF AND REVIEW IT.
I don't like to do this because I see all the flaws on video.
I know exactly where to look and what to watch for.
AND THAT IS THE POINT!
I recently taped my close-up show in preparation for a
lecture. I learned some bad things:
1) Bad Pass:
I thought that I did a pretty good pass- but I don't.
I've been doing a pass for years in the restaurants and
no one has ever called me on it. Maybe they just didn't know
what happened. But, to me, it looked terrible.
Result: I practiced in the mirror and came up with a new
way to do a card pass that is more deceptive- I think! I'll
find out tonight as I test it in the restaurant.
2) Presentation improvements:
I need to slow down and make sure that everyone can
see what I want them to see. I need to make sure that I hold
up the props and pause. I need to tell everyone what I have
in my hand or on the table. I need to repeat the name of the
card that someone names. I need to show a card slowly and
hold it up.
These valuable lessons were learned because I took the
time to tape myself and watch with a critical eye.
