#2 - Be Prepared - The Magician's Motto
----------------------------------

If you were in Boys Scouts, then you probably know that 'Be Prepared' is their motto. But it should also be the motto of magicians. Preparation can put an OK performance Over The Top!

Here's a couple of examples:

The Steve Deck:

This is a trick that you could make. In fact, I strongly recommend that you make it for yourself.

Last night I was doing a Walk-Around Magic show for some doctors from the Mayo Clinic. They were paying me about twice what I normally get because of originally booking me for longer, and then reducing the time. So, they were fine with paying me this much. But I still felt like I wanted to do something extra-special for them.

So, I prepared a special trick for Steve, the doctor that hired me. The effect was that Steve could FREELY name any card in the deck. Then I showed him that I had a deck of cards that had names written on the back of the deck. Every card had a different name on it. But the card that he named had his name 'Steve'
written on it.

He really liked it! And said that it was better than his other favorite card trick (Cardtoon.) The extra work involved in making this trick was well worth the
reaction from the audience.

USING A FORTUNATE ACCIDENT:

After my time was done, I was walking out and I found Steve's name tag on the floor. It was one of those sticky tags that fall off easily. So, I stuck his name tag on the face of the Joker in my regular deck of cards.

Then I went back to the table that Steve and some other doctors were at and I said, "Oh Steve, I almost forgot. I have one more special trick, just for you."
Then I asked the group, "If Steve were any card in the deck which one would he be?" Half the people at the table immediately said, "The Joker!"
Then I showed that the cards were different and shuffled and I asked Steve to pick a card and show everyone what he selected. Of course, he picked the Joker with his name tag stuck to the face. He was surprised, and so was the rest of the group.

Then he looked at where he THOUGHT his name tag was, and he was completely shocked. You see, he hadn't noticed that his name tag was gone. And because of his shocked reaction, the rest of the table was shocked and cried out, "How did you do that?" (Every magicians favorite question!)

And I left him the card as a souvenir.

Have you seen "The Real Hustle"?

This show is great! It shows how real people really get hustled by a team of con artists that includes a pick-pocket and a magician.

The January 22nd episodes demonstrated how innocent and ordinary people can lose at The Three Card Monte, and get conned into spending lots of money on a fake antique, and will allow themselves to get pick-pocketed by strangers
in uniform and willingly give up personal identity information to complete strangers.

The show is on Tru TV network (formerly Court TV) every Tuesday at 9:00 pm central. Educational and Amazing!

#5 - MAGICBASE TIP -
--------------------------------------------------------------------
If you're a MagicBase user, then you may be aware that there is no way to manually close the FlexContract window. When you use the FlexContract feature, a secondary window appears with additional buttons. When you're
done with the FlexContract, that window just goes into the background, but doesn't disappear.
Here's an undocumented way to make it leave:
Go to the All Events Screen (E icon), and click on the 'This Year' button. A small window will appear allowing you to select a date. When that small date window appears, the FlexContract window will disappear!
