Here are a couple of questions from James Hathy:

1. How to price a restaurant?

My answer:
"Yes, you should price a restaurant based on it's menu.
When I performed at Outback Steakhouse, I set my
price the highest that I'd ever charged a restaurant,
and they also gave me a $20 food credit each week too.

This makes sense because a family of four will pay around
$90 to eat there.

But my prices were lower for the family pizza restaurant.
They also gave me a food credit, but it was only an additional
$5 coupon each week."

Then also give the restaurant the option to lock in a
lower price if they book you for a certain minimum
time. For example, you could say, "I'll perform 2 hours
of magic for $100. But, if you contract for 6 months
minimum right now, then I'll take $10 off the price."

The restaurant saves $250 and you're guaranteed
$2250.

2. Why do some people try to
book into a place that already has a performer?

My answer:
"I just had this happen to me last week. A new
"magician" had moved into town. He knew that I
was at the restaurant. He came there the night I
was working, talked to me, AND THEN WENT TO
THE OWNERS AND TRIED TO GET A JOB THERE!

Anyone who does this is AN AMATEUR, and an
unethical huckster. This is just a demonstration of
laziness: instead of going to a restaurant and selling
them on the idea of table-side magic, they go to a
place that is already sold on the concept- because
it's easier.

If any magician that you know does this, then you
should report him to the local magic chapter.
This jerk's name was Bernard.
(You should have heard the owners complain to me
about this guy after he left. He left a BAD IMPRESSION.)"

#5 - MAGICBASE TIP - Calculating Referrals
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Did you know that you can easily see how many jobs
an ad or any other referral source is generating?

Use the 'Referral' field.
Whenever someone says that they booked be because
of a Yellow Pages ad, then I type (or select) "YP" in that
field.

To do a search, I just click on the 'Find' button and
then enter (or select) "YP" in the Referral field. Now
MagicBase will find every record that has 'YP' in that field.

Then I can view them, or I can go to the reports
screen and print up an income report based on those
search results. So, I'll know instantly how well my ad
is performing for me.
