Did you know that there are only two types of people ---------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- I just performed eight 15 minute shows at the MN State DFL convention in Rochester this week. During one of those shows, I performed my Card Memorization demonstration. I memorize 26 cards from a shuffled deck while a helper writes the names of them on the white board so that the whole audience can read the sequence of cards. It's not a trick, it really is true memory skill. Before the show I asked an intelligent looking woman to
assist me. On stage I gave her instructions about how to
write the cards on the white board. Since I was going to
memorize 26 cards, I explained, she should write down
4 rows of columns of numbers with a card at each number.
To help her, I had pre-written the numbers 1 - 7 in a
column on the left side of the board. (Plenty of room for I THOUGHT that I explained it well and that she understood it. After all, I've performed this demo many times and given similar instructions- without any problems. To make sure she understood, I showed the first card (JH) and asked her what she'd write next to the number 1. She wrote "JH". Good - she understands... So I turned away from the board and directed my attention to the audience as I called out cards from the shuffled deck. After 8 cards, I looked back and the woman had written all 8 cards HORIZONTALLY ACROSS the board, in very small letters, completely ignoring my pre-written numbers down the left side of the board. AND she had written one of the cards WRONG. I corrected her, and then explained (again) that she should write the numbers DOWN the board and put a card next to them. It should be perfectly clear now, right? When I looked again, after calling out 15 more cards, she had written them HORIZONTALLY AGAIN, in very small letters. There is no way the audience could clearly have seen these letters. When I recite back the sequence of cards, the audience is supposed to be able to read the cards on the board so that they can verify that I'm right. Well, I still was able to perform the demo, but not with the same impact that it would have had without the interruptions and the tiny lettering. LESSON: I like using volunteers. Audience reactions are
always stronger when one of their own is on stage.
But, occasionally, you can get someone who can ------------------------------------------------- This summer the new version of MagicBase will be released. You can learn about this new program at: If you're not certain about buying MagicBase Pro now, then you can purchase MagicBase 2.6 now. Later, you can upgrade to MagicBase Pro and the full cost of your purchase will be credited toward the new MagicBase Pro. The current MagicBase 2.6 sells for $100 as a digital download. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's the effect: Any card is freely named. (Total free choice) It's a prediction trick. A real fooler and very easy to do! If you can perform the Invisible Deck, then you can do this trick. The audience is really impressed because you've committed yourself to one certain card. It's a permanent mark. Note: Only one deck of cards is used. There's no second deck held in reserve. It's a real permanent 'X' hand drawn on the card. Instantly ready to go. No need to re-set anything. I made a quick video of the effect.
You can view it here: Be the first kid on your block to get one! -------------------------------------------------------------------- Just submit a tip to this newsletter, and you'll be entered into the contest to win a Magic DVD.
