#1 - Planning for the New Year

Do you have plans for the new year?
If you don't set goals, it is harder to move forward and make
progress in your business and personal life.
I know you've heard this a thousand times before.
So, I'm not going to tell you how to set your goals.
But I think that there is something to do BEFORE you
start writing out a list of goals to achieve:
Set a marker for your overall direction.
Have your heard of just writing out an
"Overall Life Goal" or "Overall Work Goal"?
If you've used a service like Map Quest, you know that
you can type in the address that you want to go to and
the service will print out a list of directions like "Go
4 miles and turn left on Hwy 12" etc.
Those step by step directions are like the list of goals
that you create. But the address that they are all
leading to is your "Overall Work/Life Goal."
It is just one sentence that says where you're headed in life.
Do you have one?
Three years ago, after attending a marketing conference, I
wrote out my major work goal of "Maintaining my performing
business while increasing my online product sales."
I just did a review of my income growth for the last 3 years.
I was happily surprised to discover that I did just what I'd
written in my overall business goal:
I grew my product sales from next-to-nothing
until they became 22% of my income last year.
Also, because of diversification in my businesses, I've had a
60% growth in income since 2005. 19% of the growth occurred
in the last year.
So, fight the recession by making your own overall work goal.
Then, send me your one sentence goals. We can help each other
to stay accountable.
My over-riding goal for the next year is to develop my residual
income streams until they are half of my income.

#3 - A practical gift for you

I often get hired for special birthdays like someone's 40th, 50th
or 75th birthday.
Here's a trick that you can do, and the computer file to do it:
I say to the audience that "Sometimes people choose cards that
have a special meaning for them. Like, a woman who likes jewelry
might choose diamonds, or someone in love may choose hearts."
Then I have the birthday guest of honor (celebrating her 50th
birthday) to choose a card from the deck and to show the
audience. And, amazingly, she chooses a card that has special
meaning to her: The 50 of Diamonds!
I have computer files for you to have if you'd like to try this trick.
The cards are digital files that you can print. They are designed at
300 dpi and will be just the right size to paste onto the
face of card.
It doesn't matter to the recipient that this is just a made-up
card because it gets a good laugh and is a memento of
the celebration.
